About this site

Hello visitor!
Welcome to my privacy awareness website! My name is Jan R. Storelvmo, I’m 41 winters old, from the northern part of Norway. I’m currently finishing my bachelor’s degree in cyber security at Noroff University College.

Join me as we explore my bachelor’s degree thesis around privacy and data collection in mobile apps.

The website you’re reading is centered around my bachelor’s degree thesis in Cyber Security at Noroff University College and serves as the “artefact” with the aim to increase data privacy awareness in the general population regarding mobile apps on the Android platform. My bachelor’s degree thesis explores the many implications around data privacy in mobile applications in today’s evolving digital landscape.

With this website I hope to increase user awareness around the various privacy implications of tracking and data collection conducted by mobile apps every day. With enhanced user awareness and knowledge, users are able to make better informed decisions when installing so-called “free apps” and to better understand how mobile apps and services that cost millions to develop and support can be “free of charge”.

My bachelor’s degree thesis will further explore these matters in depth, with the aim to better understand the implications of data collection and specifically “surveillance-based advertising”. Information found on this website is based on the study for my bachelor’s degree thesis. My complete thesis can be downloaded and read from this site for free.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions, or just want to say hello. I hope you find this website useful and that it can help increase your knowledge and awareness around tracking, data collection, and surveillance-based advertising used every day by mobile apps.
